Christian Aid Week

Nexus supports Christian Aid and, in particular, Christian Aid Week. It is a Christian organisation that insists that the world can and must be changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty. Find out more at www.christianaid.org.uk

At Nexus we support Christian Aid Week by taking part in house-to-house collections in the local area. We also hold a 'Hunger Lunch'

Hunger Lunch

 

Recipe for dahl baht

Ingredients:
Splash of oil
1 large white onion, finely chopped
1 heaped dessert spoon of garam masala
1 level desert spoon of turmeric
1 teaspoon of ground cumin
1 teaspoon of chilli powder
3 cloves garlic finely chopped
2 inches root ginger finely chopped ( or ground ginger)
400g tin of chopped tomatoes
Bag of red/yellow split lentils
1ltr veggie stock

Method:
Fry the onions till soft, in oil.Add the spices and fry to bring out flavour. Add garlic, ginger and tomatoes. As mixture bubbles, cover with thick layer of lentils and stir to coat them well before adding the stock. Simmer the mixture with lid off to reduce, stirring frequently. Add more liquid if necessary, until lentils are really soft. Add salt, pepper if preferred.

Serve with rice or naan bread.

A simple lunch - with dahl baht (lentil curry)

If you are unable to come on Sunday, the challenge is to make your own Dahl Baht meal at home at any time in the next few weeks and then give what you have saved on a more expensive meal to Christian Aid.

Don’t like curry? Make soup or bread and cheese instead.

In this way we can all participate and younger folk in particular can learn about the work of Christian Aid.
