Genesis Sunday Centre

What is the Sunday Centre?

The Sunday Centre is a project of the Genesis Trust in Bath. It offers a low cost Sunday lunch in a warm and friendly environment from 1pm in Walcot hall.

Up to 60 needy locals turn up and for £1 or 2 Genesis Lunch vouchers they receive a substantial 2-course lunch (including a vegetarian option). Newspapers and games are also available.

How is it run?

Teams of volunteers from different churches from around Bath take turns in providing a meal. Nexus participates in the rota every 6-8 weeks.

The day is divided into 3 shifts – the preparation team; the serving team; and the afternoon tea and clearing up team. There is a great deal of camaraderie amongst the group and it provides an invaluable insight into the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our city.

How can I help?

  • Volunteer – no cooking skills required, just a desire to help. Ages of volunteers are from 20-80, so no excuses!
  • Donate money to help subsidise the costs of this service
  • Buy Genesis vouchers to give to those begging in the street as an alternative to money. They can be obtained from The Wood Works, Genesis Furniture Project, Manvers Street Coffee shop and Bath Abbey Bookshop. The vouchers can also be used at Genesis LunchBox and towards the Julian House Night Shelter.

Email here if you are interested in helping in anyway – offers of help are always very welcome.
